The team everyone should be watching is those Maui Ribs. Trevor, despite not doing much in terms of trades or Free Agency, finds himself now in 3rd place with room to move in a few categories. Trevor is one of the original JBL owners and his best ever finish was a 2nd place finish back in 07/08. It's hard not to root for this team. He did a very good job on draft night and has had the benefit of back to back 1st round rookie picks (Unibrow and Oladipo). I'll be watching to see if Trevor can track down Juan and the Wack. He's on the right track as he's won the last 4 of 5 weeks.
Thaddeus Young is on fire. I'd like to think I saw this coming because I protected him for this season. Unfortunately, I traded him for the now injured Jrue Holiday. Thad has 114 steals on the season (3rd in the NBA) while also averaging 17ppg and 6rpg and is shooting almost 48%. Nice work Thad.
Pretty clear what French Lick's plan is for next season. Build around DeAndre Jordan and Damian Lillard. As far as keeper plans go - that's a top notch plan in my books.
The Kok is in the middle of an epic battle. No, not with Juan de Fuca or Seoul on some side wager that always seems to end up in the other guys' favour. I'm talking about the battle with MBB. The battle that Bobby has no idea he's involved in because he hasn't made a single move all year. Not a single FA signing. Not a single trade. Nothing. And yet, somehow, MBB and Bangkok are neck and neck battling for 11th/12th. Not a crowning achievement for the Kok by any means. At least he has MCW for next season. I liked that move.
And what will become of our Montreal franchise?? All is quiet from our 'french' partners. Of course, being in 13th and not having a keeper for next season isn't the best reason to stay focused on your fantasy team. I do hope that they will be back with renewed focus for next season. And I hope they can be on time for the JBL Auction - because that would set them up for better success when you don't have to worry about the 'auto-pilot' drafting you 2 Guards you didn't want in the 1st place.
And of course, the once mighty Seoul squad has vowed to come back stronger next season. Seoul is hoping to squeak into the top 8 so he can get a 3rd keeper. However, if he gets just 2 guys - it will be Drummond and DeRozan obviously. After a 5th place finish last year and now a 8th to 10th place this season - the 5 time JBL champion will be hungry to reclaim his place as perennial contender.
Another team to keep an eye on down the stretch is the Brussels squad. Timbo has loaded up with talent (Cousins, Gasol, Wall, Millsap, etc) and is looking for his first money finish since 07/08. How high can Brussels go?? As I look at the Standings tonight, Brussels has 832 points but by reviewing the categories I see approximately 100 points available. That would get the Muscles up to the 930's. Is that enough to win it?? Maybe not. But it puts him in the conversation.
So, it's down to 5 teams for 4 money spots in my eyes. The Wack, Juan, Maui, Golden and Brussels. In my opinion, only 4 of them can win the title. As mentioned, I don't think Golden is healthy enough to compete. So, that leaves the other 4 to battle it out. I still think Chilliwack has the most talent in all 7 categories to win it. Juan's FG% woes are his biggest hurdle to gaining points. I'm only seeing +26 points available to Juan de Fuca in the major categories. Is that enough to catch the Offs? Maui and Brussels both have room to gain points and could be better suited to threaten the Wack's title aspirations.
So...who wins?? We'll have to follow closely...
